I have just finished reading The Stranger, and I felt kind of not agreeing with Meursault in his perspective on life. He is a different version of Rick. Wubba lubba dub dub!!
I believe attributing meaning to life and having an objective is something that we do by not noticing it. While growing up we are being affected by environmental, social and cultural, etc. factors, such as attitudes of our parents, virtues that they teach us, school life, friends, traditions, beliefs etc. The meaning of our existence is shaped for us by all these, I think. And, I believe, it is very important and effective for humankind to have a life in wellness, prosperity and advancements. So, overall we can say it is more optimized way of living (both your own life and as a community).
One point I agree with the character in the book is that there are flaws in our thinking, approach, assessments, and judgment. When there is a case of murder, there is no logic behind questioning murderer’s lack of emotional reaction to the death of his mother, and trying to deduct and justify something based on this approach.
There is also a movie shot by Zeki Demirkubuz, Yazgı, which is based on this story.
The book is good for letting us see the life from a different perspective.
